A street in Fife was locked down after reports of a 'man with an axe' in a Kirkcaldy housing estate.

Police descended on Links Street on Thursday morning after the alarm was raised by concerned members of the public.

Images taken at the scene show five police cars and vans in attendance.

The area was cordoned off while enquiries were carried out.

A helicopter is also believed to have been circling overhead.

Residents claimed to have seen a man 'running about with an axe' and warned locals to be vigilant.

One local said: "Police all over the Links as there’s a man running about with an axe.

"Be vigilant if you're out and about".

Another said: "Three guys with axes running about. They got two of them but one still missing.

A third added: "Was told a guy was going around with an axe."

Police have now launched a probe into the incident and are urging anyone with any information to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports of a man with a weapon on Links Street, Kirkcaldy at around 11.10am on Thursday, 16 June, 2022.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting incident 1111 of 16 June.”
