A man has been arrested after reportedly assaulting another man with an axe.
At 1.55pm yesterday armed police were called to Stuart Road in Walton after reports were made of a man wielding an axe. The officers then tracked the 31-year-old man to Southport where he was arrested and the axe was recovered.
A man was reportedly assaulted but so far the injured party has not come forward and inquires are ongoing. Police believe it was a targeted attack and that the men are known to each other.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "At around 1.55pm, armed police were called to Stuart Road to reports of a man in possession of an axe. A man was reportedly assaulted but no injured party has come forward. Inquiries continue.
"Armed officers arrested a 31-year-old man in Southport. He was taken to a police station for questioning and an axe was forensically recovered. This is believed to have been a targeted attack with the men known to each other and there was no wider threat to the public.
