A man who asked a fellow passenger to move out of the train seat he had pre-booked has been praised after he shared footage of the encounter on social media. TikTok users could not believe the "audacity" of a stranger who challenged him when he asked her to move out of the seat he had paid for on a crowded train.
In a now-viral clip posted by @mr_boris_becker on TikTok four days ago, which has racked up more than 378,000 likes and more than eight million views, the man walks up to the seat he has booked which already has someone sitting in it. "My place is [seat] 103," he politely says to the woman sitting there.
Instead of moving, she appears to try and point out other seats he could go and sit in instead, saying there were other places available. The man responded: "It's gonna be difficult. My place is 103 and I need my place. I'm so sorry."
While the woman then says she understands and gets up to move, TikTok users were shocked when another nearby passenger who overheard the exchange interjects. Although what she is saying is difficult to hear because of the audio quality on the video, she appears to question the man's actions before shaking her head at him, the Mirror reports.
He reiterated that it was the space he had paid for and asked the passenger to calm down. Thousands of people commented on the viral video, with some calling out the "audacity" of the people involved.
"No way they were getting upset at you asking for the place you bought," one person said in a comment liked more than 30,000 times. "The way the lady snapped at him, I would have exploded," another said.
"Obviously the train is full so the man needs to get the spot he paid for," another TikTok user said. "Worse than her taking his place is the other woman trying to justify why he should look for another seat," someone else added.
Another said: "This happens all too often, entitled people thinking rules don't apply to them, then having the audacity to moan when confronted."
Someone else agreed: "Very, very cheeky. Just get up, say sorry and go..."
