Man who police say was drink driving detained by public after allegedly trying to flee crash

Police say a drink driver tried to run from the scene of a crash between a ute, a car and a motorcycle in South Australia's Barossa Valley.

The 38-year-old Lyndoch man allegedly produced a blood-alcohol reading of 0.177 and was charged with drink driving, driving unlicensed and leaving the scene of a crash.

SA Police said he was driving a Toyota HiLux ute at about 7pm last night when he lost control on the Barossa Valley Way and crashed into a Mercedes driven by a 53-year-old Lyndoch woman.

A motorcycle trailing the Mercedes collided with the rear of that car, injuring the 46-year-old male rider from Lyndoch.

Police allege the Toyota driver ran from his ute after the crash but was stopped and restrained by members of the public until police arrived and arrested him.

Both the Mercedes driver and the motorcyclist were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Toyota driver was bailed to appear in the Tanunda Magistrates Court next month.
