"An all round great bloke” Jamie Harper - who’d put other people’s needs before his own - has been named as the man who tragically died after collapsing at Leeds five-a-side football centre Goals.
The tragic incident occurred at the venue in Redcote Lane, just off Kirkstall Road yesterday (Sunday, September 11). He died in Leeds General Infirmary, just before 1.41pm.
The 34-year-old from Castleford was at the Leeds venue playing a charity match for a children’s cancer charity. Jamie worked as a chef for Wetherspoon and was taking part in the company’s annual event to raise money for CLIC Sargent.

A massive sports fan, he was a season ticket holder for rugby team Castleford Tigers and an avid fan of Manchester United.
The 34-year-old’s brother Rikki spoke of much he’ll miss him. Rikki, 32, said: “He was one of the best characters. On a night out, he was the sole of the party. He loved going out with his mates, clubbing and dancing. He was the sole of the party. A right laugh to be with.
“He was kind and generous. He would do anything for anybody, he would put them before himself. An all round great bloke who everybody loved.”
Tributes flooded in on Facebook for the Castleford man. Eddie Edwards wrote: “I lost a good friend today, a good man, a kind man. Someone who has time for anyone. Loved to enjoy himself and loved to see others enjoy themselves.
“Haven’t really known how to process it but what I have seen and I think I knew it already but I’ve seen hundreds and hundreds of people, almost all who knew him, say positive words about him.”
John Lacey wrote: “So so sad to hear this news. A great guy. Would have made an amazing dad. Will be missed as he was loved by many people he did not realise. Forever think of you Mr and the crazy nights out.”
Aisha Leigh wrote: “I can’t believe that I’m actually writing this and I am still stunned from what I’ve just been told. Jamie Harper, one of the most kindest, honest and amazing man to ever come through my life.
“You’re going to be missed so much by so many people. R.I.P my love absolutely. Heartbroken right now, rest easy Jim Jam."
