A man who died after being hit by a bus in Edinburgh has been named.
Michael Leneghen, 74, died after being struck at roughly 7.25pm on Saturday in the Cowgate area of the Scottish city. He was local to the city.
His death was so horrifying some revellers thought it was a Halloween prank.
Police Scotland urged the public not to repost images or videos from the scene out of respect for his family.
Mr Leneghen had been on foot at the time of the incident.
In a statement released via the police his family said: “We wish to thank all the members of the public and emergency services involved. We would now ask for privacy at this time.”
Sergeant Paul Ewing, of Police Scotland’s road policing unit in Edinburgh, said: “Our thoughts remain with Michael’s family and friends, as well as everyone affected by this tragic incident.
“Our enquiries remain ongoing. We have already spoken to a number of people who were in the area at the time and work is ongoing to check public and private CCTV footage.”
