A man charged two years ago with attempting to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh is set to face trial in June 2025. The accused, Nicholas Roske, allegedly traveled to Kavanaugh's Maryland home armed with a gun, burglary tools, and other equipment. Roske appeared in court wearing a maroon prison uniform with a slight beard and long hair pulled back in a bun.

The trial, expected to last a little over a week, will be held in a federal courthouse in Maryland. The trial date of June 9, 2025, was set by Judge Peter J. Messitte after failed attempts by prosecutors and defense attorneys to reach a plea deal over the past two years.

During the court proceedings, Roske's attorney, Andrew Szekely, stated that no further mental evaluations were required for his client. The defense also indicated they would seek to exclude the statement Roske gave to officers after his arrest but would not contest the admission of 911 calls in which Roske allegedly expressed intentions to harm Kavanaugh.

Prosecutors revealed that Roske had placed a 911 call while near Kavanaugh's residence in Maryland in June 2022, informing the operator that he needed psychiatric help. When asked by the operator about his intentions, Roske mentioned Kavanaugh as his target. The chilling conversation indicated Roske's acknowledgment of planning harm to both himself and the Supreme Court justice.
