Man who allegedly raped woman nine times granted bail in ACT Magistrates Court

A Deloitte employee who allegedly raped a woman nine times after meeting her on a dating app has been granted bail in the ACT Magistrates Court.

Cameron Tannock was arrested by police on Thursday after a search warrant was executed on his home.

He was charged with nine counts of rape, one charge of sexual assault in the second degree, an act of indecency without consent and forcible confinement.

Mr Tannock met the woman on the dating app Red Hot Pie and then moved to communicate on Kik, before organising to meet in person, facts tendered to the court said.

The facts said the pair had communicated for a few days prior to the interaction and discussed BDSM, but when the woman arrived at his home, she became uncomfortable with the situation, telling police that he "took all her rights as soon as she walked in the door".

The court heard that Mr Tannock allegedly took recordings of some of the sexual interactions — including when the woman said her name, age and suburb — and threatened to release them.

Defence lawyers for Mr Tannock said there was no basis for concerns that he would post the content online, and there was no criminal history to suggest he would intimidate the victim.

Bail granted due to no criminal history, not severity of alleged offending

The facts tendered to the court revealed the woman was crying during one of the interactions that was allegedly recorded.

But Mr Tannock's lawyers said he was under the impression it was a consensual interaction.

His lawyer told the court he texted the woman after the interaction to ask: "What did you enjoy the most?"

Magistrate Louise Taylor granted Mr Tannock bail, noting that he had no previous criminal history and there was no suggestion he would not comply with bail conditions.

"The defendant comes before court applying for bail at 50 years of age with no criminal history whatsoever," she said.

"There's clearly no concern in relation to flight", she later added.

But she noted the nature of the allegations against Mr Tannock.

"The offences, as I've said, are serious," she said.

The conditions of his bail include not to contact the complainant, to not use the internet at all, to have no devices that are able to connect to the internet, including a requirement to surrender any already in his possession by 5pm today, and staying at home between 7pm and 7am every evening.

He will return to court in August.
