A man will face up to 28 years in prison after sexually abusing his three teenage stepdaughters over and over in their rural NSW household and elsewhere.
The offending took place over eight-and-a-half years with the Parkes man, who cannot be legally named, frequently taking advantage of his children through a myriad of sexual acts in the home's bedrooms, pool room, garage and sheds.
Other assaults took place on family trips to Newcastle, Queensland and Burrendong Dam.
"Overall the offending against (one of the stepdaughters) was calculated, callous and predatory," NSW District Court Judge Michael King said in a sentence handed down on Friday.
Some of the abuse was opportunistic and brazen, occurring during sports massages or while watching TV, while others involved a degree of planning, especially a number of incidents where a vibrator was used, Judge King found.
The youngest daughter was six or seven years old when she was abused "two, three times a week" with the man, only ceasing when the three girls grew old enough to start dating.
On two occasions, the man attempted to procure sexual favours from the children in exchange for purchasing them computer games they wanted.
"You know what chores to do," he told one girl.
He threatened one of his daughters to protect himself and hide his actions, saying he knew someone who could "make people disappear".
"If you tell anyone, I might make that happen to you," he said.
Judge King imposed a maximum 28 year jail sentence, expiring on May 5, 2049, for "a significant raft of very serious offences" relating to sustained abuse that took place from a position of trust and authority.
A non-parole period of 21 years will expire on May 5, 2042.
The man, who was arrested on May 6, 2021 and who sat with his face in his hands throughout Friday's sentence, faced 10 charges of maintaining an indecent relationship with a child, aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecent assault of a child.
He also faced one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice by phoning family members and trying to induce two of the three stepdaughters to drop the charges while in custody, including by offering financial assistance to their mother.
He pleaded guilty to these charges in the Local Court on June 10, 2022, attracting a 25 per cent discount to his jail time.
Judge King also took into account three further counts of indecent assault and inciting indecent acts against a child, and a further count of contravening an apprehended domestic violence order.
In a police interview, the man blamed his stepdaughters for starting it, saying that one of them had "pointed her ass in my face" and gone to bed without any pants.
The judge found he had shown no remorse for what had happened and had not accepted responsibility, often trying to minimise his conduct.
"I'm still wrong but she instigated it," he said during a recorded phone call while in prison.
His denials that he was sexually attracted to children flew in the face of what had occurred, Judge King said.
In handing down the sentence, the judge acknowledged the psychological damage this behaviour did to the three girls, their vulnerability at the time, and the significant age gap between them and their stepfather.
