Gardaí in Offaly are investigating the circumstances of an alleged assault with a golf club on Sunday morning.
It's understood a man in his 50s was assaulted in the sickening attack which occurred on the Clonminch Road in Tullamore on Sunday, November 6.
The incident happened shortly before 6.30am and the Offaly Express reports the man was walking to work when he was confronted and struck with a golf club.

They report that the man was approached for directions by four men in a car before one alleged assailant got out of the vehicle and struck him a number of times with a golf club.
The men then remained in the area for a number of minutes before making their way from the scene.
The victim was not seriously injured but gardaí are continuing to investigate the incident. Any one with information can contact Tullamore Garda Station at 057 9327052.
In a statement to the Irish Mirror, a garda spokesperson confirmed: "Gardaí are investigating the assault of a man in his 50s that occurred on the Clonminch Road, Tullamore, at approximately 6:30am Sunday 6 th November 2022. No arrests have been made, investigations are ongoing."
