A man walking to the shop was struck by strangers before being threatened with an axe.
Officers received a report on Tuesday at around 7pm that a 34-year-old man was approached and spoken to by three men near Longshaw Street in Warrington.
The man, also from Warrington, was then struck by two of the thugs. The third man threatened him and was believed to be in possession of an axe before the gang took cash and fled the scene.

The victim sustained minor injuries to his face and was taken to hospital for further checks. The three men are described as being white, in their early twenties and seen wearing dark clothing with face coverings.
Officers are now appealing for anyone with information to get in touch with Cheshire Police. Detective Sergeant Victoria Tait said: “This was understandably a frightening ordeal for the victim but luckily he only sustained minor injuries.
“I understand this incident may cause alarm in the local community, but I would like to reassure people that we are doing everything we can to find who is responsible. There are officers in the local area who are conducting further enquiries and as part of this, I am appealing to anyone who may have information to please come forward.
“We are also appealing to anyone who has CCTV or dash cam footage from the area around the time of the incident to get in touch. The same goes to anyone who knows who is responsible.”
