Man walking along train tracks in Howdon arrested on suspicion of causing public nuisance

A man was arrested after a police incident in the Howdon area of North Tyneside on Wednesday morning.

At 5.45am, police received a report of a man walking along the Metro tracks near Howdon. Officers attended and found a 42-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of causing public nuisance.

The man remains in police custody at this time. The Metro network was temporarily suspended as a precaution but has since resumed with some delays to peak services.

Services between Wallsend and North Shields were briefly suspended due to the nature of the incident.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 5.45am today (Wednesday) we received a report of a man walking along the Metro tracks near Howdon. Officers attended and located a 42-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of causing public nuisance.

"He remains in police custody at this time. The Metro network was temporarily suspended as a precaution but has since resumed.”
