Man Utd weigh up options for next transfer after Mason Mount amid interest in fringe player

Mason Mount is soon to be through the door at Manchester United, but it remains to be seen which players will be following him or heading in the opposite direction.

United's lengthy pursuit of the Chelsea midfielder finally culminated in a £55 million bid being accepted, with a possible further £5 million to be paid in add ons. The 24-year-old has already undergone a medical at Carrington, and will imminently be confirmed as Erik ten Hag's first summer signing after he said an emotional goodbye to Chelsea on Tuesday night.

He almost certainly won't be the last through the door at United this summer.

As well as his ongoing pursuit of a new goalkeeper and striker, Ten Hag is now set to turn his attention to further midfielders as interest grows in one of his current players.

The signing of Mount is set to pave the way for the departure of Fred. The Brazilian signed from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018 for a fee of £47 million, but fallen down the pecking order amid the arrivals of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the 30-year-old is being tracked by Premier League side Fulham. And with just a year left on his current contract, he could leave for free in 12 months if the Red Devils don't cash in this summer.

United have been linked with a swoop for Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat, who was pivotal to Morocco reaching the World Cup semi finals in Qatar. Ten Hag is a known admirer of the 26-year-old, with the pair working together at Utrecht in 2017.

And the League Cup winners are also in the race to sign Southampton's teenager Romeo Lavia. The 19-year-old is almost certain to leave the Saints following their relegation from the Premier League.

But they face competition for the highly rated star, with Liverpool also chasing the Belgian defensive midfielder. Chelsea are also reportedly preparing a bid as Mauricio Pochettino continues to overhaul his squad.

Ten Hag wants the majority of his transfer work done before United begin their pre-season campaign. That gets underway with a game against Leeds in Oslo on July 12, before playing Lyon a week later ahead of embarking on a four match tour of America.
