Manchester United have told they should hijack Liverpool ’s move for Fulham wonderkid Fabio Carvalho in the summer.
The Reds ran out of time to strike a deal in the January transfer window, but Jurgen Klopp's side are understood to still be in pole position for the talented youngster, who has shone in the Championship this season.
Carvalho, 19, is out of contract at Craven Cottage at the end of the season and while Marco Silva's side are closing on a return to the Premier League, he is expected to move on a free transfer.
And former Manchester United defender Paul Parker believes that United should look to usurp their rivals to land the Portuguese-born starlet, even claiming he is "on the same level" as current Red Devils star Bruno Fernandes.
Can Man Utd hijack Liverpool’s move for Carvalho and bring him to Old Trafford? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
“I think he's [Carvalho] a really good player, said Parker, speaking to My Betting Sites. "I've seen him quite a few times. Can get a little bit, maybe bullied, but that's the Championship a little bit.
"But you'll mostly get more out of him, if he plays at a higher level with better players.
“Fernandes is in there as well . Someone who in a way plays in the same way. But this lad [Carvalho] is at the same level, maybe better in that sense that he's not trying to knock 60-yard balls everywhere, but he is a good runner with the ball."
However, despite being a huge fan, Parker does have his doubts over where Carvalho would fit in the current United side at present.
He added: "The midfield at Manchester United, I don't know where you would fit him in. I know where I would want him to play. But Manchester United's midfield at the moment is all about hard work - digging in.
"Not for the fact of quality football and playing through midfield, because they don't keep the ball. That's the problem.
"Someone like him, you would want to get him in good areas with the ball at his feet. And I just don't think they are playing that way.
"You supplement him by having someone like Fred around him, who would be that extra bit of legs. He's got to play at a high energy team, and Manchester United are not high energy in midfield. It's ponderous.
“The problem with United is that we don't know how they are going to play. There's no great pattern of play. There's no foundation. You don’t know what formation they are going to play.”
