Man Utd transfer round-up: David de Gea replacement eyed as Erik ten Hag plans second U-turn

This summer is set to be a pivotal one for Manchester United, with Erik ten Hag potentially able to act earlier than in his first transfer window.

United's manager had to wait until August to land some of his biggest targets last season, and the Red Devils started slowly before ultimately recovering to finish in the top four. Continued questions over a takeover mean there could be more delays this time around, but the former Ajax boss will want to wrap some deals up as early as possible.

One key is United's goalkeeper situation, which is far from certain amid discussions with long-serving number one David de Gea. That's just one of the areas covered as Mirror Football looks at the latest transfer lines from around Old Trafford.

Onana interest sends De Gea message

Man Utd remain interested in Andre Onana, adding further credence to the suggestion Erik ten Hag played a part in the reported withdrawal of a contract offer to David de Gea. The Mail reports Ten Hag's reservations over the Spaniard could see him leave Old Trafford upon the expiry of his deal.

United's manager worked with Onana at Ajax, and a reunion appears to be on the cards. The Cameroon international has starred for Internazionale and is expected to be available for around £50m.

David Raya, Diogo Costa and Bart Verbruggen have also been mentioned as potential arrivals. For now, though, Onana seems to be top of the pile.

Ten Hag 'open to' Henderson stay

While United may end the window with Onana as their starting goalkeeper, there could still be a spot for forgotten man Dean Henderson. The England international spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest but sat out the second half of the campaign through injury.

Forest are understood to be keen on a permanent move for the 26-year-old, who remains under contract at Old Trafford until 2025. However, according to The Sun, Ten Hag could use the uncertainty over De Gea's future to keep Henderson around.

"I didn't really want the manager to see me in training because I knew he'd probably want to keep me," Henderson told talkSPORT shortly after completing his loan move to Forest. "I told all the hierarchy: 'I need to go and play football. I don't want to be playing second fiddle'. And it panned out so I was almost gone before the manager came in."

Mount talks to resume

Manchester United and Chelsea are due to re-enter talks over a move for Mason Mount, according to The Telegraph. The two clubs have yet to reach agreement on a fee for the England international, with Chelsea reportedly holding out for £65m.

United are prepared to pay £55m for the 24-year-old, who is entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge. Mount missed the end of last season through injury, with the problem keeping him out of England's March and June internationals.

Earlier talks over a new Chelsea deal for Mount failed to bring an agreement between player and club. The Blues' new manager, Mauricio Pochettino, is due to begin work on July 1 as he prepares the London side for the upcoming season.
