Man Utd takeover latest amid Sheikh Jassim bid and what must happen for Tottenham green light

Tottenham Hotspur fans will be on alert after comments made about Manchester United's takeover.

It has been reported that Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani could turn his attention to Tottenham Hotspur if his attempt to buy United fails. Sheikh Jassim submitted an improved offer to purchase the Old Trafford side on Tuesday, having already submitted a third bid at the end of last month.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is also keen on buying United, with Sheikh Jassim his main rival. United have been up for sale since November, when the current owners the Glazer family announced that they were looking at letting go of the club.

The Manchester Evening News reports that Sheikh Jassim's new bid for the Red Devils amounts to around £5.5billion and will clear all of United's debt with a separate fund for the club and community. Meanwhile, ESPN journalist Mark Ogden said on The United Stand that Sheikh Jassim may consider going for Tottenham if his move for the Red Devils fails.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy reportedly held a meeting with Paris Saint-Germain's owners Qatari Sports Investments earlier this year. There is no suggestion that Spurs' owners, ENIC Group, are looking to sell up but if a bid worth billions of pounds comes their way it would certainly be considered.

Indeed, Jahm Najafi of MSP Sports Capital was reported to be preparing a bid in February with investors from the Gulf region contributing too. "Somebody told me recently, they said that if the Qataris don't buy Manchester United, they'll be back and they might end up buying Tottenham," Ogden said.

"He said, look, if you've got Manchester City owned by Abu Dhabi, you've got Newcastle owned by Saudi Arabia, if Qataris maybe buy Tottenham, then you've got three clubs who can pull away." If Sheikh Jassim is not successful with his move for United, then Tottenham could well be on the agenda.

Spurs are ready-made for a takeover with a state of the art training ground and a brand new stadium that is already set up to maximise revenues away from football. Money would also be saved, too, with United expected to cost considerably more than a move for Spurs.
