Harry Maguire believes critics should wait "five or six" years before judging whether he has been a success at Manchester United.
The England international signed for Man Utd following a protracted £80 million transfer from Leicester City this summer and has already emerged as a key player under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, playing every minute in the league this season.
Despite Maguire's impressive start to life at his new club, the Red Devils are currently 12th in the Premier League after eight games following their worst start for 30 years.
The 27-year-old is adamant he will enjoy a successful career at Old Trafford and has urged fans and pundits to wait before making a judgment on his time at the club.
"It's the long-term, that's what the main thing is," Maguire told the club's official magazine.
"In five or six years, judge me then - whether I have been a success at this club or not.
"I do believe and am really confident that, in five or six years, I'll be a success and I am sure we'll have many, many good times here.
"We need to keep improving as a team, not just me as an individual. I feel, if we improve as a team, I'll be a success too."
Maguire's move ensured he became the most expensive defender of all-time, but the centre-back insists he is not unfazed by talk about his price tag.
"It doesn't bother me at all," he said.
"It's something that I can't affect. Leicester wanted to keep me and they are in a great position as a club.
"Manchester United wanted to buy me and they came to an agreement. It's probably a good deal for both parties and it's something now where I want to concentrate on my football."
