Man Utd star Hannibal Mejbri at centre of £21m bid as Barcelona star approves transfer

Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri is the subject of an audacious £21million bid from FC Andorra - the Spanish second-tier side owned by Barcelona star Gerard Pique.

Mejbri was on the books at Monaco before moving to Old Trafford back in 2019 and has since gone on to make three senior appearances for United.

Despite being given a taste of Premier League action in the final matches of last term by former interim chief Ralf Rangnick, there has been talk that the 19-year-old would be allowed to leave the club on loan this summer following the appointment of Erik ten Hag, with a Championship switch mooted.

But a new report from L’Équipe has revealed that Andorra have tabled a substantial offer for Mejbri in a bid to test Manchester United's resolve over the Tunisian international.

The offer that Andorra have put to United is an initial loan deal with an option to purchase Mejbri on a permanent basis if he impresses during a season-long stint in Spain.

It remains to be seen though if United have an appetite to sell the teenager, with the club thought to prefer a Championship loan for Mejbri while Ten Hag bids to solve the club's long-standing midfield issues.

Andorra's ambitious swoop highlights just how far the club have risen since Pique purchased the club back in 2018. The former World Cup winner has taken the Spanish minnows from the fifth-tier all the way to La Liga 2.

And he has now given the green light for the ambitious outfit to rival established Championship teams such as West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City in the race to snap up Mejbri for the coming season.

The Manchester Evening News reported last week that Mejbri was closing in on a switch to Birmingham following widespread second-tier interest once it was clear that United would entertain the idea of loaning the youngster out.

However, the report did outline that a deal had not been concluded and was dependant on no last-minute snags - which may have now materialised in the wake of Andorra's lucrative bid.

Middlesbrough and Millwall were two other Championship sides who were credited with an interest in Mejbri's services prior to Andorra's surprise bid.

Mejbri is eager to play regular first-team football this year ahead of the World Cup, which takes place in Qatar later this year. The attacking midfielder is currently in contention to jet off with the Tunisia team in November - but that could change if he isn't featuring regularly in the build-up to the tournament.
