Man Utd star Anthony Elanga sent pointed messaged to Leeds fans at full-time

Anthony Elanga faced the Elland Road crowd and declared Manchester United 's dominance after their entertaining victory over Leeds United on Sunday.

The Red Devils overcame a second-half scare to beat their rivals 4-2 in the Premier League and boost their hopes of Champions League qualification.

Harry Maguire opened the scoring and Bruno Fernandes doubled the lead to give the visitors the advantage at the break, but they saw their lead evaporate in a matter of seconds as Rodrigo and Raphinha hit back for Leeds.

Ralf Rangnick turned to his bench in a bid to restore the lead and struck gold as substitutes Fred and Elanga found the back of the net.

The latter celebrated his 88th-minute strike emphatically by hushing the home fans having been struck in the head by a coin following Fred's goal.

Elanga, 19, exacted further revenge on Leeds supporters at full-time by holding the Manchester United badge and pointing to the Elland Road pitch, hammering home his side's triumph on their old enemy's turf.

The Sweden Under-21 forward is proving to be the breakout star of Manchester United's campaign after forcing his way into the squad under Rangnick.

Elanga did not feature in the Premier League this season under former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but Rangnick handed him minutes off the bench during his first game in charge, the 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace in December.

The youngster subsequently scored against Brentford in January and he has featured either as a starter or a substitute in the club's last eight top-flight fixtures.

Against Leeds, Elanga was introduced in place of Jesse Lingard while Fred came on for Paul Pogba in a double change on 67 minutes.

The Brazilian midfielder scored moments later by lashing past Illan Meslier at the near post before Elanga finished from Fernandes' delightful flick in the closing seconds.

Rangnick was delighted with the match-winning impact his substitutes made and admitted they surpassed his initial expectations.

"It was great to bring on two energetic players like Fred and Anthony Elanga. They both scored in the end," the interim manager said.

"This is the best part of it: I didn't bring them on to score goals, it was about getting more energy to the team again and play in a similar style to we played in the first half."

Up next for Manchester United is a trip to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie before a return to domestic action to host Watford on Saturday afternoon.
