Man Utd squad picks a side after Ralf Rangnick "killed" Marcus Rashford with decision

Ralf Rangnick's decision to name Marcus Rashford on the bench despite not starting another striker in Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Leicester City reportedly left the dressing room baffled.

Cristiano Ronaldo is currently out of action for the Red Devils with an illness while Edinson Cavani picked up an injury on international duty. Rashford was expected to lead the line against the Foxes, given he is the only match-fit out and out forward.

But interim boss Rangnick opted to leave the England international on the bench, with Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes taking it in turns to plug the gap up top from midfield.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Rangnick's decision left Rashford's Man United teammates 'baffled'. And it's not only the Red Devils squad that was put out by the unusual tactic, with Gary Neville claiming it would have "killed" the forward.

"I was struggling a little bit with it before the game without the centre forward," said Neville on Sky Sports, following the draw. "That's killed Marcus Rashford today, not playing in that team.

"I know he's been poor, I know he's lacked confidence but for Cristiano Ronaldo to pull out this morning and for Paul Pogba to go in and change the system of play and the way in which the game has been approached and not just put Marcus Rashford in as a striker as a straight swap having trained with the players the last 10 days. Overall, there are too many things at this club that are uncertain."

Rashford eventually came on for United in the second half at Old Trafford, replacing midfielder Scott McTominay 10 minutes after the restart with the deadlock yet to be broken. But the striker was unable to inspire the Red Devils to victory.
