Man Utd sent Antony transfer warning as defiant Ajax manager aims dig at Red Devils

Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder has maintained his team do not need to cash in on Antony and reminded the player that Manchester United are not a Champions League side.

The Brazilian worked under Erik ten Hag and is keen to follow Lisandro Martinez in moving to the Premier League side as they look to bolster their ranks. Antony has reportedly made his desire known and was left out of Ajax's win at Sparta Rotterdam due to the continued speculation.

Ajax have previously had to cash in on their top stars with Martinez moving for over £50m earlier this summer, but the Dutch side will be demanding even more for their winger, who they value at around £80m. Their business though means they are under no pressure to sell the Brazilian.

Ten Hag will also be readying for Europa League action later this season whilst Schreuder and his Ajax players will be operating at Europe's top table - something he was keen to mention at United's expense. He said on his player's future: "I understand Antony. But you play for Ajax. We are playing Champions League football. I don't think Man Utd are playing Champions League football.

He also added: "I want Antony to stay. I am assuming that the club will not sell him. The money that is being thrown around these days is crazy. But I would not find it okay if we sell another player. We are in a powerful position, financially."

Ajax have already sold Martinez, Sebastien Haller and Ryan Gravenberch for over £100m over the past few months and have re-invested that money into their squad. Antony was a key member of their team last term, scoring 12 times as they retained their league title.

The player himself refused to confirm he would remain in Amsterdam when quizzed by De Telegraaf. He was asked if he could tell Ajax fans he would be staying, he replied: "No, to be perfectly honest, I can't. What I can say is that I want to come to the right decision with my family, business partners and Ajax, which is good for everyone."

He would be a shrewd addition for the Red Devils however as they look to add more firepower with new recruits desperately needed. Ten Hag has seen his new team lose their opening two games, conceding six in the process, as he begins his rebuild at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman has already talked about the need to add new faces and may yet struggle to get United into the top four, at least this season, which would mean another year without Champions League football for the club.
