Man Utd's triple transfer snub suggests they agree with Donny van de Beek claim

Manchester United passed up the chance to sign three players in January because of Ralf Rangnick’s presence.

And it comes as Donny van de Beek was allowed to leave on loan for Everton - though the midfielder will be back after they refused an option to buy.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes that the Dutchman could repeat Jesse Lingard’s magic spell away last season when he joined West Ham.

While United’s transfer policy in January would indicate that they are in agreement with the former striker’s comments as they await a new manager in the summer.

There were several outgoings at Old Trafford over the winter window including Amad Diallo, Axel Tuanzebe and Anthony Martial.

And fans were desperate to see some players come the other way as the Red Devils gun down a spot in the top four of the Premier League.

But according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, United were offered Julian Alvarez, Denis Zakaria and Boubacar Kamara but turned their nose up to all three.

They may learn to regret that decision after Alvarez signed for Manchester City on a five-and-a-half-year contract while he will spend the rest of the season staying at River Plate on loan.

Zakaria also signed for Juventus with his contract at Borussia Monchengladbach expiring in the summer while Kamara stayed at Marseille.

United want to bolster their squad when they have an idea who is in charge with Rangnick only coaching on an interim basis but Van de Beek’s situation also complicates matters.

And while he will return in the summer, Wright believes the former Ajax star can go on to really show his talent after being shackled at United.

The Gunners legend told The Ringer podcast: “I’m hoping that can work for him, he's going to need a bit of time but then again I hope he doesn't need that bit of time so he can show, like what Jesse [Lingard] done [when he] went to West Ham and was just blasting.

"[I hope] Donny does the same, so we can see what those people [ Manchester United ] what they've done to that guy in the last few years is wrong.

"So I'm hoping for Donny van de Beek [to regain form/international place]."

Under Frank Lampard, Van de Beek could finally realise his potential but any decision on his permanent future will remain with United - who denied Everton the chance to include an option to buy despite their attempts in negotiations.

It means that whoever replaces Rangnick will get the chance to make their own mind up while Mauricio Pochettino is the hot favourite to take over at Old Trafford.

The Argentine is not happy at Paris Saint-Germain where he has 18 months left on his contract but he could quit this summer.
