Man Utd's Marcus Rashford sends message to Donny van de Beek as Everton loan confirmed

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has sent a message to Donny van de Beek following the Dutchman’s loan move to Everton.

The 24-year-old will stay with the Toffees for the rest of the season and becomes Frank Lampard 's first signing, having only been appointed as manager earlier on transfer deadline day.

Van de Beek has had limited opportunities at Old Trafford since his switch from Ajax in the summer of 2020 with neither Ole Gunnar Solskjaer nor Ralf Rangnick offering him a prolonged run of selection.

The Netherlands international has started just four Premier League matches since his move to English football and none this season.

He is expected to return to United this summer after five months at the Merseyside club, where he is hopeful of enjoying a sustained period in the starting line-up.

Rashford posted on Twitter, alongside a heart emoji and tagging van de Beek: “My brother. Go show them what you can do.”

Van de Beek said after his switch to Goodison Park : "Now I can say I am an Everton player, I am really happy and can't wait to help the team.

"I think it is a great club. There are really good players here and I came because I want to help them go up the table.

"I hope to bring my football qualities, my passing, and, of course, scoring goals. It is a big part of my game to score and give assists and I will try to do that again.

"And it is not only offensive, you have to defend as a midfielder and I can do that as well."

The midfielder had been strongly linked with both Crystal Palace and Spanish club Valencia prior to his switch to Merseyside.

"I had a really positive meeting with the new coach. We have the same ideas about football and he had a lot of influence on my decision," Van de Beek explained.

"I played against him when I was at Ajax, and he was at Chelsea [as manager], so he knows me as a player. He thinks I have qualities that can help the team.

"I can learn a lot from him because he was a little bit in the same position – a midfield player who scored a lot of goals.

"He can help me a lot, so I think I'm in a good spot. I want to improve with Everton. There are always things that can be better and I work hard every day to do that."

Van de Beek’s debut at Everton is likely to be the Premier League clash against Newcastle on 8 February as he is cup tied for the FA Cup clash against Brentford.
