Man Utd's Marcus Rashford rescue mission involving ex-target and Jadon Sancho masterplan

Marcus Rashford could get his Manchester United career back on track if his boyhood club are willing to sign a right-winger in the summer.

The England international has become unhappy at United, according to The Guardian, and is weighing up whether to push for a move away from Old Trafford having found his opportunities become limited at the club.

Rashford is no longer one of the first names on the team sheet under Ralf Rangnick and is having to try and influence matches from off of the bench.

Although Rashford is not entirely convinced that he wants to leave the Red Devils, the fact that he is considering where his future lies will have sent shockwaves through United.

The 24-year-old is out of contract in 2023 and thus negotiating a renewal will have certainly been high on the ‘to do list’ for United in the next 12 months.

However, Rashford could re-find his form if he returns to playing as a no.9, as he did when he broke onto the scene, and thus signing Watford winger Ismaila Sarr could open up that opportunity.

The Hornets star almost signed Sarr in the summer for £40million when talks with Jadon Sancho were ongoing, according to former Watford technical director Filippo Giraldi.

Speaking on the Here We Go podcast, Giraldi said: “We were extremely close, I was personally negotiating with them.

"We weren't able to reach an agreement. And I think Ismaila is very young, he will arrive for sure.

"He missed probably an opportunity, but I think also for his football to stay here and get 10 goals and 10 assists, he's deciding the league. I think for Watford in the condition they are at the moment it's luck he stayed.

"I love Ismaila because he has the ability to affect the game every time he plays, and that's quite rare.”

With Watford looking likely to be relegated back into the Championship, clubs will be lining up to try and pinch the Senegalese winger from the Vicarage Road outfit.

With reports circulating about Cristiano Ronaldo being unhappy at United, Edinson Cavani set to leave the club in the summer and Mason Greenwood unavailable, playing Rashford as a striker could solve plenty of the Red Devils’ issues next season.

Sancho and Sarr on the flanks with Anthony Elanga providing cover means that United have sufficient depth on the wings and that trio have the pace to stretch defences and open up a lot of space through the middle.

Throughout Rashford’s career, questions have been raised over what his best position is.

His former manager Jose Mourinho felt that the academy product is a versatile option that can play anywhere across the front line, though his attributes made him more of a threat on the wing.

But United legend Ryan Giggs disagrees, he told PA Sport: “He's just so quick and direct. His best position, really, is through the middle, coming up with the goods and he is just an exciting player.”

It remains to be seen whether United use their previous negotiations with Watford to their advantage and ensure that they can keep Rashford happy with regular game time as a striker.
