Man Utd's forgotten man Alex Telles discusses his future amid Sevilla loan spell

Alex Telles says he has not decided whether he wants to leave Manchester United to make his loan move to Sevilla permanent at the end of the season.

Telles was among the exodus leaving Old Trafford over the summer as the arrival of Erik ten Hag sparked big changes at United. Like Dean Henderson, Amad Diallo and Alvaro Fernandez, he left on loan, as the arrival of Tyrell Malacia pushed him down the pecking order at left-back.

The 29-year-old has been a regular for Sevilla so far this season, contributing two assists in 14 appearances across all competitions. He played the full 90 minutes as Sevilla were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid in La Liga on Saturday and after the match he was asked about his long-term plans.

“I’m very happy at Sevilla,” he told reporters. “The club and the fans have given me a lot of confidence. I will give my best here and I don’t know what will happen next year.

“I honestly don’t think about whether I can get injured before the World Cup. Of course, it can happen to every player. But to get there I have to do my best at Sevilla. Then, when the time comes to go to Qatar, we’ll think about that.”

Telles is hoping to be a part of Brazil’s squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar next month. Despite Sevilla’s poor form in La Liga, his regular game time for the club should help his cause, given he would likely be third choice in his position if he had stayed at United.

Luke Shaw has rediscovered his best form, leaving summer signing Malacia on the substitutes’ bench. Shaw has enjoyed working under Ten Hag, who he believes has reinvigorated the squad on the training pitch.

''I can see a lot of progress. I can see that the team is enjoying the new ideas and wanting to work with the new ideas,'' Shaw told the club website before the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday. ''He has brought a lot more intensity, a different structure and a structure that we now know what he wants us to do, which is a big help.

''The main thing is intensity and aggression and he wants us to go out on the pitch and give 100 per cent and leave it all out on the pitch.''

Telles is on loan with Sevilla until June, when a final decision will be made on his future. He is under contract with United until June 2024, having joined the club in a £15.4million transfer from Porto in 2020. So far he has made 50 appearances for United, contributing eight assists and one goal.
