Manchester United's Europa League clash with Real Sociedad is to go ahead as planned this Thursday following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, with players set to wear black armbands as a mark of respect.
The Red Devils are in action from 8pm at Old Trafford where there will be a minute's silence held before the game. Flags at the stadium will also be flown at half-mast.
The decision for the match to go ahead as planned was made by the FA and UEFA.
The Queen died at the age of 96 surrounded by her family at her beloved Scottish estate, Balmoral. Her eldest son Charles is now King with Camilla as Queen Consort. The Monarch is survived by four children, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Buckingham Palace announced the Queen had passed away at 6.30pm with the following statement: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."
Manchester United released a statement shortly after the news broke.
It read: "Manchester United shares the sorrow of the entire nation following the announcement from Buckingham Palace on the passing of Her Majesty, The Queen.
"The club recognises her immense contribution to public life, including sport, both here in the United Kingdom, across the Commonwealth, and around the world.
"Everyone connected with Manchester United joins the wider football family in sending our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to The Royal Family."
Arsenal are currently in action in the Europa League in Switzerland against FC Zurich.
The news broke during the half-time break and players held a moment's silence before the match resumed.
Arsenal's official Twitter account, meanwhile, posted: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen. Along with many of our supporters today, we will be taking time to mourn and reflect on Her Majesty's incredible life and devoted service."
