Man Utd reject bid for Jadon Sancho as Erik ten Hag prepares for further summer transfers

Manchester United have knocked back a loan approach from Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho.

England international winger Sancho joined United from Dortmund in a £73m deal back in 2021. He has blown hot and cold in Manchester, though, and the Red Devils are prepared to take a hit to sell him on for around £45m.

One thing they don't appear prepared to do, however, is offload the Londoner on loan. According to The Star, United have rejected a loan approach from Dortmund out of hand, though they remain open to sanctioning a permanent exit for Sancho if the price is right.

Sancho was the assist king in Germany, with 51 in 104 Bundesliga games for Dortmund. He failed to repeat the trick in English football, though, and remains in single-figures for the stat across two seasons.

The winger's first season was overshadowed by other distractions at Old Trafford, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being sacked and interim replacement Ralf Rangnick struggling. Sancho had to wait until November for his first league goal and only added two more.

A strike in Ten Hag's first win as manager suggested things might be different in year two, and there have been some bright moments. However, with Ten Hag preparing for further additions, some senior stars may need to make way.

United have already begun what looks set to be a busy summer as they prepare for Champions League football. A deal has been agreed for Chelsea star Mason Mount, who will command a fee of around £60m, while Marcel Sabitzer could follow after a successful loan.

Sabitzer could be available for as little as £12.8m, though Barcelona have also been linked with the Austrian. United are also in the market for a goalkeeper, while sales - including a potential move for Sancho - may be required to free up the funds for a much-needed new striker.

On the goalkeeper front, Andre Onana appeared to be the front-runner after working with Ten Hag at Ajax. However, amid financial questions, Dutchman Justin Bijlow and German Kevin Trapp have also entered the conversation.

A new frontman is likely to prove much more expensive, especially if United pursue a move for Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen. Both strikers are valued at £100m more by their respective clubs, though England captain Kane is in the final year of his contract at Tottenham.

Sancho is not the only United player who could be offloaded this summer. Club captain Harry Maguire and injury-affected Martial are among those who could move on, while talented youngster Zidane Iqbal has already completed a cut-price switch to Ten Hag's former club Utrecht.
