Man Utd receive 'opening offer' for James Garner as Nottingham Forest stance revealed

Manchester United have reportedly already received a bid for James Garner, who has been linked with a return to Nottingham Forest.

Tottenham Hotspur have made an "opening offer" to the Red Devils for the 21-year-old, according to football reporter Alan Nixon. However, it's said to have been "below what United will accept" for the player.

As per the MEN, Man United want between £15-20 million for Garner, who helped Forest achieve promotion to the Premier League while on loan last season.

Although Forest have been touted as one of the two clubs most interested in Garner's signature, the report adds that the club "seem to have backed away" from trying to sign him permanently.

The Reds have already signed four new midfielders in the summer transfer window in Remo Freuler, Cheikh Kouyate, Orel Mangala and Lewis O'Brien. It's unlikely that the club will shell out an eight-figure sum on a position for which they are well covered right now.

Garner is a popular figure among the Forest faithful and would be welcomed back if he were to return to the City Ground. He contributed four goals and eight assists in 2021/22 as promotion was secured through the Championship play-offs.
