Man Utd quartet make Brazil World Cup squad but Liverpool and Arsenal stars cut

Brazil manager Tite has named four Manchester United players in his 26-man squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

The Selecao, the most successful team in the tournament's history, are aiming to add their sixth crown and their first since 2002. They kick off their group-stage campaign against Serbia on 24 November before taking on Switzerland and Cameroon.

Brazil are the bookmakers' favourites to emerge victorious in Qatar and they will have a wealth of attacking talent to call on, including some of the biggest stars in the Premier League. Despite being omitted from the squad for September's international fixtures, Arsenal forwards Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli will board the plane to the Middle East.

The duo have played key roles in helping the Gunners reach the Premier League summit, but there is no room for their defensive colleague Gabriel. Tite has also named a remarkable four United players in his squad, namely Antony , Casemiro , Fred and Alex Telles , the latter of whom is on loan at Sevilla.

Antony took to social media with a stirring video after discovering he had made the cut, sharing footage of him celebrating with loved ones. As his goalkeepers, Tite has chosen Alisson and Ederson of Liverpool and Manchester City respectively, with Palmeiras' Weverton also included.

There are yet more familiar faces in central defence, with Chelsea veteran Thiago Silva an option alongside Real Madrid stalwart Eder Militao , Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos and Juventus summer signing Gleison Bremer . Juve duo Danilo and Alex Sandro will compete for minutes in the full-back slots with Telles and Dani Alves , who is 39 years old and plying his trade with Mexican side Club Universidad Nacional.

In midfield, Liverpool's Fabinho , West Ham's Lucas Paqueta , Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes and Flamengo's Everton Ribeiro join Casemiro and Fred. There is another player from Rio de Janeiro-based Flamengo in attack in the form of Pedro , but the rest of Tite's options ply their trade in Europe.

Alongside Antony, Jesus and Martinelli, PSG superstar Neymar , Barcelona's Raphinha , Tottenham's Richarlison and Real Madrid pair Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr. round off the squad. There is no room for Liverpool fan-favourite Roberto Firmino.

Speaking last week, Neymar picked out England as one of Brazil's main rivals for World Cup glory, while Tite previously said: "I'm expectant but focused. We reached the World Cup; now it's time to reach the final and be champions. This is the truth."

Squad announcements will continue to trickle in over the coming days, with Gareth Southgate set to name his Three Lions selections on Thursday. England reached the semi-finals of the World Cup four years ago, where they were defeated by Croatia, before taking on Italy in the Euro 2020 final last summer and losing on penalties.
