Man Utd predicted line-up vs Burnley as Ralf Rangnick confirms Jesse Lingard's status

Jesse Lingard is set to return to the Manchester United squad later tonight, with Ralf Rangnick confirming there are no issues between the pair.

The 29-year-old was left out of the FA Cup defeat to Middlesbrough on Friday after the interim boss claimed he needed some days away to “clear his head”, after failing to secure a January exit.

Lingard strongly refuted that accusation, stating that his “mindset was clear” and the instruction to not play was instead given by the club.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday night’s trip to Burnley, Rangnick moved to quash any insinuation of problems between coach and player, whilst confirming he will be part of the travelling party to take on the Clarets.

“With regards to Jesse, I have a very good relationship with him,” the German coach explained. “He knows that I would have been willing to let him go - at least until the issue with Mason came up - and all the other things, I think we have spoken about.

“He mentioned some personal issues but again we have to look forward now. There are no problems whatsoever between myself and Jesse and vice versa. I'm happy to have him in the squad and, as I said, he will be a member of the squad for tomorrow's game."

Edinson Cavani is also available for selection, having been granted additional time off following the international break.

Lingard in particular is unlikely to start, having played just 88 Premier League minutes, whilst Cavani was also a substitute for their last top-flight encounter, the win over West Ham.

Paul Pogba is in line for his first league appearance of 2022 having impressed on his return from injury against Middlesbrough.

His return is a timely boost in the middle of Man United’s midfield, with Fred ruled out of the trip to Turf Moor after testing positive for coronavirus.

Alex Telles has also returned a positive test, meaning Luke Shaw is likely to start in his absence.

Summer signing Raphael Varane had to be substituted during the defeat to Boro, but is fit and available to partner Harry Maguire at the heart of the defence.

At right-back, it is anticipated Diogo Dalot will continue to be Rangnick’s preferred option having started six of the eight league games he has been in charge of.

Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho are also expected to play, despite the former picking up a back injury last time out, while Sancho was only withdrawn as a precaution.

Rangnick will have a decision to make in the forward areas, with Sancho showing glimpses of form, whilst Anthony Elanga will be looking to quickly bounce back from his penalty miss in the FA Cup.

Man Utd predicted line-up vs Burnley (4-3-3): De Gea; Dalot, Maguire, Varane, Shaw; McTominay, Pogba, Fernandes; Sancho, Ronaldo, Rashford
