Man Utd news: Transfer emergency as Erik ten Hag learns Victor Osimhen asking price

After booking their place in the final of the Carabao Cup, Manchester United have league matters to attend to this weekend.

Erik ten Hag's team completed a convincing aggregate victory over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, winning 2-0 at Old Trafford after a 3-0 victory at the City Ground. They will face Newcastle United at Wembley, after Eddie Howe's men got the better of Southampton over two legs.

That game came too early for Marcel Sabitzer, who was United's only transfer deadline day signing when he joined on loan from Bayern Munich. The Austrian's move is one of a number of topics as we bring you the latest news lines from around Old Trafford.

Emergency protocol before Sabitzer move

Man Utd turned to their 'emergency protocol' before completing their last-gasp move for Marcel Sabitzer. The loan move for the midfielder was sealed at the eleventh hour, with United only able to confirm the arrival after the transfer window had shut.

Football director John Murtough led a group tasked with identifying targets who were available after United learned Christian Eriksen would be out injured until April. Erik ten Hag was presented with a list of 10, and Sabitzer was the player who ultimately ended up at Old Trafford.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen would reportedly set Man Utd back a huge £89m if the Red Devils move for him in the summer. The Nigeria international is the top scorer in Serie A this season, helping his current club race clear at the top of the table.

United are expected to move for a new striker over the summer, after terminating Cristiano Ronaldo's contract by mutual agreement in November. Dutch international Wout Weghorst has arrived as a short-term solution, joining on loan from Burnley, but further investment is likely to follow in the summer.

With Osimhen unlikely to come cheap, the Premier League high-flyers are believed to be monitoring other potential targets. England captain Harry Kane has long been on their radar, while Dusan Vlahovic could also be an option after Juventus ' Serie A points deduction damaged their Champions League prospects.
