Man Utd news round-up: Erik Ten Hag to battle for Barcelona star after Bundesliga blow

Manchester United are ready to splash the cash in January after their recent friendly defeats to Cadiz and Real Betis highlighted the desperate need for reinforcements.

A new right back remains on the agenda and a Bundesliga star has been targeted, although United have been told where they stand with their attempts to sign him. Elsewhere, there are also plans to revamp the left back position with a Spanish World Cup star, while there could be a surprise raid on north west rivals Leeds.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest stories coming out of Old Trafford…

Ten Hag sets sights on Barcelona starlet

United manager Erik ten Hag is keen on signing Barcelona left back Alejandro Balde next year.

The Dutchman currently has Luke Shaw and summer signing Tyrell Malacia as his current options in that position and although the pair have performed respectively in the first half of the season, there are still plans to continue improving that area of defence.

Now, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo are reporting that United are battling PSG for the Spaniard’s signature and any deal could be done at a lower cost given the youngster only has 18 months left on his current deal.

Leverkusen chief ‘relaxed’ over United interest

One of United’s main priorities in January is to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right back and the latest reports have revealed that Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong could be the main man on the agenda.

The former Manchester City youth product has shone with the German outfit since signing from Celtic in 2021 but Leverkusen’s club chief Simon Rolfes has revealed that his side are currently ‘very relaxed’ about the future of the Netherlands international.

“We are very relaxed with Jeremie. It would be fatal if he didn’t draw attention to himself from big clubs with these performances”, Rolfes told Sky Germany . “Jeremie has a long-term contract at Leverkusen, so we’re very relaxed.”

United eye shock move for Leeds star

Following his impressive performances for the United States at the World Cup, United are said to be eyeing up a move for Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams.

The Red Devils signed Casemiro and Christian Eriksen during the summer but Ten Hag is keen to strengthen his options further, despite having the likes of Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek waiting in the wings to impress.

However, TEAMtalk have revealed that there is strong interest from United in the United States captain, although the Whites have no intention of letting one of their star players leave in the January transfer window.
