Man Utd news: Qatar takeover bid receives huge boost as Pep Guardiola response issued

Manchester United have plenty going on both on and off the pitch this season during Erik ten Hag’s debut campaign.

The Red Devils have already claimed the Carabao Cup at Wembley, while they will also be aiming to reach the Europa League quarter-finals against Real Betis. This is all occurring amid a backdrop of United attempting to secure a place in the Premier League top four come the end of the campaign.

There is also plenty of talk over the ownership of the club as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani compete to become the new owners of the Red Devils. With all of that being said, take a look at the latest news to come out of Old Trafford over the last 24 hours.

Man Utd respond to Guardiola’s Roberts claim

Man United have mocked Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola after the Spaniard claimed he is a "failure" because Julia Roberts visited Old Trafford instead of the Etihad Stadium back in 2016.

The Spaniard was speaking after his side beat RB Leipzig 7-0 in the Champions League. In the aftermath of his complaints, the Red Devils fired a brutal dig via a tweet.

It read: "Throwing it back to when Julia Roberts visited Old Trafford," with the winking eye emoji and #MUFC. The post also involved three images of Roberts at United during her brief trip.

Qatari takeover handed a huge boost

Sheikh Jassim’s proposed bid to buy the Red Devils has received a considerable boost after it was revealed that UEFA are considering allowing clubs with the same owners to play in the Champions League.

There were originally concerns about his links to Qatari-owned Paris Saint-Germain with UEFA not allowing owners to have two clubs in the same competition. However, president Aleksandar Ceferin has suggested that a change to the rules could be considered.

Speaking on The Overlap, he said: "We are not thinking about Manchester United only. We've had five or six owners of clubs who want to buy another club. We have to see what to do.

"The options are that it stays like that or that we allow them to play in the same competition. I'm not sure yet.”

Henry approves Kvaratskhelia swoop

Arsenal icon Thierry Henry has claimed that Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia would be “the full package” for Manchester United as the Red Devils eye a swoop for the Georgian.

“He has the legs to go on the break with Osimhen,” the Frenchman said. "This is why they understand each other very well because, once Osimhen opens his legs, it’s not easy to catch up with him. But he is with him the whole time.

“He’s just the full package.”
