Man Utd news: PSG owner denies takeover involvement as Harry Maguire demand sent

Manchester United appear set for a busy summer, both in the boardroom and in the transfer market.

The much-maligned Glazers are seeking either a full buyout or minority investment in a takeover process that has dragged on for months. That process appears to be nearing the end though, with Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani having submitted a final bid last week.

As that takeover battle rages, United will also be busy in the transfer market both with outgoings and incomings, though they have been warned that they will need to honour Harry Maguire's contract, if they look to end his time at Old Trafford by mutual consent.

Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Manchester United news.

Al-Khelaifi denies takeover involvement

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has denied that he is involved in Sheikh Jassim's bid for Manchester United. Reports emerged on Friday linking the Qatari to his countryman's bid, links Al-Khelaifi has publicly distanced himself from.

"Paris St-Germain is my club, in my heart, and I have nothing to do with Manchester United. It makes me laugh. I am Qatari, right? If people ask me my opinion, I will answer them for sure - and that's what they do," he said.

"I am talking about anyone, not just Manchester United. I will give them the experience that I have. That's it. I want the best for European competitions. If it's within the regulation, why not? Not only Qatari, everyone."

Duo "tarnished" by United

Manchester United have been accused of tarnishing the careers of Harry Maguire and Phil Jones. Former Red Devils star Louis Saha lambasted the Premier League giants for the way they have been treated in recent years.

"I feel sad for them both because they are very loyal and have given their all for the club. Their legacy has been tarnished because of the team's transition in recent years," Saha told Betway

"The team was not ready for Maguire, the squad was going through a transition and that’s why his £80m price tag was that enormous for a defender. It put a lot of pressure on his shoulders and it made it a nightmare for him."

Red Devils must honour Maguire contract

United have also been told that they must honour Harry Maguire's contract, even if they attempt to move him on this summer. Maguire fell out of favour under Erik ten Hag, with little chance he will be able to retake a starting spot.

The Red Devils are expected to try to either sell him or come to an agreement for a mutual termination of his contract. But Richard Keys has warned club chiefs that they will need to honour the full terms of that deal, rather than seeking to pay less than he is due.

Keys tweeted: "I'm sure he'd be happy to move on but not unless United pay him what he's due. He's got a contract so they'll have to honour it. Aren't clubs always asking that players do that? The boot is on the other foot here."
