Manchester United have plans to make it three wins in a row in all competitions when they take on Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League on Thursday, with the dust finally settled on their 6-3 thumping in the Manchester derby.
But perhaps some painful truth to swallow for United fans is the club’s decision to pass up the opportunity to sign Arsenal ’s Gabriel Martinelli following four trials with the Red Devils. Elsewhere, Antony has risen to Erik ten Hag’s demand in impressive fashion, while Rio Ferdinand has performed a U-turn on Jadon Sancho.
Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest stories coming out of Old Trafford.
Martinelli’s four failed trials
Arsenal star Martinelli is shining in north London as he plays a vital role in a surprise title charge with the Gunners this season, leaving United to regret their decision of passing up the opportunity to sign the Brazilian.
Speaking earlier this year, the Brazilian revealed that he had multiple trials with the Red Devils due to an “agreement” with former club Ituano and was able to learn from the likes of United icons Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra, although a move failed to materialise.
As quoted by The Athletic, he said: "My dad and I had watched the Premier League together, all the teams, like Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Leicester. I actually had four different trials at United when I was 13, 14, 15 and 16.”

Antony came under intense scrutiny following United’s 6-3 mauling against Manchester City earlier this month after it was reported that he had ignored defensive instructions to help out teammate Diogo Dalot by tracking back.
However, following his record-breaking goal against Everton to become the first player to score in his first three Red Devils appearances, Ten Hag was full of praise for the way the Brazilian improved in both attack and defence during the Goodison Park triumph.

Ferdinand makes Sancho U-turn
Ferdinand has admitted that Sancho’s inability to replicate his form with Borussia Dortmund at Man Utd is concerning, despite having only recently praised the Englishman for his start to the season with the Red Devils.
Sancho was prolific during his time in Germany having notched 54 goals and 67 assists across four years, yet has registered just eight goals and three assists since moving to Old Trafford in the summer of 2021, with a number of those made up from his tally this season.
Speaking on his latest Vibe with FIVE YouTube show, Ferdinand said: "I haven't seen [his Bundesliga form] yet. That's the concerning thing for me”. He then added: “I just want to see the Sancho that I was going crazy about and demanding that he come on during the Euros because I haven't seen that."
