Man Utd news: Fernandes hits out at "disrespect" as Martinez issues statement

Manchester United will be aiming to continue their push for a place in the Champions League next season as they take on Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The Red Devils are well in the mix to finish in the top-four come the end of the campaign, whilst Erik ten Hag could potentially boast three trophies with his side challenging on both the domestic and European front. All of that is taking place amid the distraction of an intense takeover process at Old Trafford.

A number of interested parties are still in the race to complete a takeover of United ahead of a third round of bidding. With that being said, take a look at all of the Red Devils’ news both on and off the pitch over the past 24 hours:

Fernandes speaks out over Keane claim

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has admitted that his on-pitch behaviour goes “over the line” but has disputed suggestions that he is “disrespectful”.

The Portuguese playmaker has garnered criticism for the way he has acted on the pitch, as well as in response to his own teammates. Red Devils legends Gary Neville and Roy Keane are amongst those who have publicly questioned his conduct in the past.

Speaking with Sky Sports, he said in response: “I think obviously sometimes I go over the line, I know that. But as I said, it can happen with the game and it’s difficult to control the emotions.”

Lisandro Martinez breaks injury silence

Lisandro Martinez has confirmed his “special” first season with Man United has come to a premature end. The Argentine suffered a metatarsal injury and is now set to be missing for the remainder of the campaign.

Taking to social media, he issued a statement in response. It read: “Not the way I imagined what's been a very special season would end, but sometimes we face obstacles along the way that we have to overcome to make us stronger and we learn from them.

“I know that I'll be back very soon to go for more. In the meantime, I'll continue to support all my team-mates to achieve our objectives.”

New takeover contenders emerge

The story of Man United's prospective takeover has taken yet another twist, with giant American investor Carlyle named as "serious" bidders. The reports claim that the investment group are among a handful of parties which have pitched proposals to acquire a minority stake at Old Trafford as opposed to a full takeover.

A source close to the situation reportedly described Carlyle's interest in the club as "serious", adding that it'd been engaged in discussions for some time.
