Man Utd news: Erik ten Hag makes Cristiano Ronaldo decision as Declan Rice hint made

It's a case of running out the string for Manchester United now, as the end edges closer to a forgettable campaign.

The 3-0 win over Brentford on Monday technically kept the team's hopes of finishing in a Champions League spot alive, although a win for Arsenal against Leeds United on Sunday would officially leave the Red Devils playing Europa League football next term.

United can only keep doing their bit to apply pressure and a trip to Brighton & Hove Albion awaits them on Saturday evening before a season finale against Crystal Palace.

As much as plenty associated with the club will want the campaign to end quickly, there's no doubt that manager-in-waiting Erik ten Hag will be keeping an eye on these encounters.

What players deserve a chance in United's final two games? Let us know in the comments below!

Ten Hag makes Ronaldo call

Ten Hag is said to be keen to have Cristiano Ronaldo play an important role at Old Trafford next season.

Although the 37-year-old has frequently hit the back of the net this season, the start of a new regime in the summer prompted some to question if the veteran forward would be part of the Dutchman's plans.

However, according to reports Ten Hag is keen to work with Ronaldo and is already forming a blueprint that can bring the most out of the Portuguese and make use of his goalscoring prowess.

Ten Hag is also reportedly set to rotate Ronaldo at various points in the campaign, meaning the former Real Madrid and Juventus sharpshooter will need to make peace with not being in the XI every week.

Rice drops hint on future

Reported Manchester United target Declan Rice has dropped a hint on his future, suggesting he wants to play in more big games for West Ham United.

The London club were knocked out of the Europa League semi-final by Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday, with the Premier League side losing 3-1 on aggregate. It's a result that means the club will not be playing Champions League football next term and that will only increase the speculation surrounding Rice.

But speaking after the game, the England international said he has a desire to achieve more with the club.

"It is a real gutter because I have got to listen to them celebrate, it is not nice, but we will be back," he said. "I am young, I want more. The lads want more. This club deserves more. We have shown as a club we can do these big European nights."

Red Devils to rival Arsenal for Ekitike

According to reports, Manchester United are ready to move for Reims' young forward Hugo Ekitike.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the French top flight, registering nine goals and two assists from his 21 Ligue 1 appearances. Reims would also reportedly accept an offer £13 million for Ekitike.

Some of Europe's top clubs have been linked with the tyro, as he's viewed as an exciting prospect who could provide decent cover in the squad.

Arsenal have been mentioned as an option, with forwards Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah both out of contract in the summer. United may also need attacking reinforcements, with Edinson Cavani poised to move on when his deal runs out.
