Man Utd news: Erik ten Hag gives honest reply to Bruno Fernandes injury question

Manchester United travel to Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night looking to give their Champions League hopes a major boost.

After booking their spot in an all-Manchester FA Cup Final at the weekend, Erik ten Hag’s men return to Premier League action looking to extend their lead of Spurs in the race for the top four to nine points - with two games in hand also. That will also keep Aston Villa and Liverpool at arm’s length ahead of a busy ending to the season.

The Red Devils will have to continue battling through their injury issues however, with Bruno Fernandes having added to their worries following their cup semi win over Brighton. Mirror Football takes a look at the latest news emanating from around Old Trafford.

Fernandes injury update

Ten Hag has revealed he doesn't know whether Fernandes will be fit to face United's top-four rivals Tottenham.

The Dutchman was asked about his vice-captain's fitness during a pre-match press conference on Wednesday. He replied: "There are some players who are unavailable, [such as] Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.

"We have to see how Bruno Fernandes is, because we don't know yet. It's a question mark. But I think, for the rest, we are quite okay."

Fernandes was pictured leaving Wembley in a protective boot after United's FA Cup semi-final win against Brighton. On that picture, Ten Hag said: "It's more often that with players, we protect them. It's prevention, but it has to settle down.

"We have seen he played a full game and it happened in the first-half. But tomorrow is a quick turnaround, so we have to see what is possible."

Ten Hag's transfer boost

It's believed Victor Osimhen is not interested in joining Paris Saint-Germain, boosting United's hopes of landing the prolific striker. The Nigeria international has scored 26 goals in 32 games for Napoli this season to leave them on the verge of winning the Serie A tite.

A number of clubs, including Chelsea, are thought to be after Osimhen's signature. United are one of those clubs, although they may swoop for Harry Kane instead. The England captain is about to enter the final year of his existing deal at Tottenham.

Garnacho's Argentina plea

Alejandro Garnacho asked Ten Hag if he could skip the end of United's campaign to represent Argentina at the U20 World Cup.

The tournament, which will be hosted in Argentina, starts on May 20 - before the end of the season. That means Garnacho, who is enjoying a breakthrough campaign, will miss United's final three Premier League games against Bournemouth, Chelsea and Fulham.

The 18-year-old winger will also miss United's FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City, which takes place at Wembley on June 3.

Yet Ten Hag is happy for Garnacho to play for his country. According to Argentinian outlet Doble Amarilla, Garnacho told his club manager: "I need to write my story with the Argentina shirt. I ask you to please let me go."
