Man Utd news: David de Gea backup plan, first decision made ahead of summer revolution

Manchester United are weighing up their goalkeeping options ahead of next season after sending their scouts to watch RB Salzburg's Philipp Kohn.

United are widely expected to be busy in the summer transfer market, when they also hope to appoint a new permanent manager. And their transfer plans could extend to bringing in a new goalkeeper, with David de Gea's contract up in 2023 and Dean Henderson linked with a move away after falling down the pecking order.

It comes as the club have made their first big decision ahead of their summer revolution – after locking down Bruno Fernandes's future. And Erik ten Hag has broken his silence on his Manchester United interview

Ten Hag breaks silence

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag has spoken for the first time about his interview to become the next Manchester United manager.

The Dutch manager and Old Trafford chiefs held 'positive' talks over the United managerial position last week, with the Ajax supremo among the frontrunners for the role. Ten Hag has now spoken about his interview, seemingly confirming a meeting had taken place while calling United "a great club with great fans".

First decision made

Manchester United want Bruno Fernandes to remain a huge part of the club's future plans ahead of a summer of revolution at Old Trafford.

The United midfielder signed a lucrative new contract with the club, and the Red Devils can now concentrate on their next steps. Three more deals are set to follow the Fernandes one while five players could exit – and that's even before the club has appointed a new manager.

De Gea backup plan emerges

Manchester United sent scouts to watch RB Salzburg goalkeeper Philipp Kohn during his side's 7-1 thrashing by Bayern Munich.

A number of Premier League sides are interested in signing the Swiss goalkeeper, who has kept 13 clean sheets so far this season. Dean Henderson could seek a move away from Old Trafford this summer in order to secure more regular first-team football and Lee Grant, 39, is out of contract this summer meaning United could need to bring in backup for David de Gea.

And United are now said to be considering a move for Kohn after sending their scouts to watch the 23-year-old.
