Man Utd news: Cristiano Ronaldo to learn fate as new Erik ten Hag footage emerges

It wasn't a win for Manchester United on Saturday, but it was a draw which has helped Erik ten Hag keep some momentum.

There had been some fear that the Cristiano Ronaldo sub-plot from Wednesday's victory over Tottenham might harm preparations for the trip to Chelsea, but United still escaped with a point thanks to Casemiro's late header. The bigger worry will be an injury to Raphael Varane, with player and club waiting nervously.

United are back in action in the Europa League on Wednesday, and there is bound to be more fallout to deal with before the game against Sheriff. Here are the latest news lines from Old Trafford.

Ronaldo sweating on fate

Cristiano Ronaldo faces a wait to learn his fate, with showdown talks to come with manager Erik ten Hag. The forward was fined two weeks' wages after refusing to come off the bench on Wednesday as United beat Tottenham.

Ten Hag and United midfielder Bruno Fernandes were reluctant to say too much about Ronaldo after the weekend draw at Chelsea. The 37-year-old could yet leave in January, after a rumoured summer move never materialised.

"He's valuable to us. We need him, that's clear," the manager said of Ronaldo after the Chelsea game. "And I think you see it also in this game; he can finish. That's quite obvious. I think I have said enough about the situation. Let's focus on this game. It was a good game for my team. I have to really compliment my team."

Varane injury update

Raphael Varane faces a race against time to be fit for the World Cup after limping out of Saturday's game. The French international left the field in tears early in the second half, with Victor Lindelof coming on in his place.

According to ESPN, the thigh injury suffered by the 29-year-old is expected to rule him out for between three and four weeks. This is bad news for United, who play three league games in that period, but could yet allow the former Real Madrid man to feature in Qatar.

"It is difficult to say how it is now because it is so soon after the game," Erik ten Hag said when asked about the injury on Saturday. "We have to wait 24 hours and then we will know what it is."

Ten Hag not happy

New footage has emerged from Stamford Bridge, showing Erik ten Hag screaming at Luke Shaw in the closing stages of the game. With roughly 30 seconds of added time remaining, the Dutchman could be seen shouting and gesticulating as the defender took his time over a restart.

Shaw has been in and out of the team this season. He briefly lost his place to summer signing Tyrell Malacia, but replaced the Dutchman from the bench in the Manchester Derby and has started every game since.

The game ultimately ended all-square, with United remaining a point behind Chelsea. The Red Devils will be back on home soil for their next league game, hosting West Ham on October 30.
