Man Utd news: Cody Gakpo performs transfer U-turn amid Ivan Toney blow

Manchester United returned to winning ways on Sunday with their 2-1 victory over Everton as they got their season back on track, with the games now coming thick and fast for Erik ten Hag’s men.

But further good news has followed up that maximum points haul over the Toffees, with PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo now reportedly performing a transfer U-turn ahead of a move to Leeds United. However, Brentford have landed the Red Devils a blow over Ivan Toney, while Paul Scholes has responded to his “one trick pony” jibe on Antony.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest stories coming out of Old Trafford.

Cody Gakpo transfer U-turn puts Man Utd on red alert

Man United have been handed a huge boost after it was reported that transfer target and PSV winger Gakpo is 'no longer keen on a move’ to Leeds, despite agreeing personal terms.

Mirror Football recently revealed personal terms had been agreed and Leeds had entered talks with PSV about their £30million valuation of the 23-year-old, although The Athletic have stated that the Dutchman has performed a transfer U-turn as he eyes a move to a bigger club.

Gakpo’s form this season has opened up plenty of opportunities, with Arsenal and Real Madrid registering previous interest, while he is hoping to use the World Cup as a platform to put himself in the shop window.

Brentford land Ivan Toney blow with new contract plans

Brentford are set to offer star striker Toney a new contract to remain with the club following his strong start to the season for the Bees.

However, this now comes as a huge blow to Man United, having been previously linked with a move for the former Newcastle United forward, while the west London outfit are keen to stop the Red Devils from having any chance of signing him.

The Bees want to reward his development with enhanced terms — believed to be just north of six figures a week — that will keep him happy in west London, following five goals in eight Premier League games this season which earned him an England call-up.

Paul Scholes responds to “one trick pony” jibe

Former Man United midfielder Scholes was left with egg on his face as Antony bagged his third Premier League goal in as many games at Goodison Park on Sunday night.

Scholes had previously labelled Antony as a “one trick pony” following last week’s nervy 3-2 victory over Cypriot outfit Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League, claiming the Brazilian seems to only cut back on his left foot when receiving the ball.

But Antony’s strike against Everton over the weekend saw him make club history after netting in each of his first three top-flight matches, prompting Scholes to post a light-hearted message on Instagram that included a picture of Antony and his ‘one-trick pony" comment, with the caption "Whoops!".
