Arsenal and Chelsea have been given a significant update on the long-term future of Manchester United star Marcus Rashford who had attracted the interest of both London clubs . United activated the one-year option to extend his contract that expired in the summer which will see the Englishman remain at his boyhood club until 2024.
United boss Erik ten Hag confirmed that the club would be activating the clause in Rashford's contract last week after Paris Saint-Germain had declared an interest in signing the forward.
Aware of his immediate future being unclear, both Chelsea and Arsenal had shown interest in the 25-year-old following somewhat of a career renaissance this season after a mixed last few campaigns.

While United may have scared off any clubs interested in securing a free transfer in the summer by activating the one-year extension, that decision is simply a brief solution. If Rashford continues to impress there could be more concrete interest on the way if United are unable to tie him down to a new deal that extends beyond the summer of 2024.
The United hierarchy look set to have significant work to do over the next 12 months as Rashford isn't the only player on the books who has a contract that will expire in 2024.
Fabrizio Romano revealed that Fred, Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot have also received one-year extensions, with United eyeing a long-term deal for the latter.
Rashford is also included as part of that statement alongside Dalot, with United hopeful of also securing his long-term future. Ten hag has delivered his stance on Rashford's future, revealing he is confident that he can prove the team is heading back in a trophy winning direction, and the club will be able to satisfy his financial demands when the time arrives to negotiate a new contract.
"He has to make a decision," ten Hag said. "What we can do is to show him that this is the best club to be in, and it has to do with the culture of the club, but also in the way we are working together.
“It has to do with the way we play, the way we train, are we offering the right environment to progress further on and it's also a financial issue as well. So, if we do that, if we can tell him about the ambitions and how we want to fulfil the ambitions, these talks we will have with him. Then it is up to him to make the decision."
