Man Utd make Erik ten Hag's feelings clear on right-backs amid Aaron Wan-Bissaka rumours

Manchester United have reportedly told an unnamed Spanish club they are prepared to sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka... but not Diogo Dalot.

There has been a lot of speculation about the right-back position at Old Trafford following new manager Erik ten Hag's appointment in April. The Red Devils currently have two senior right-backs on their books - Wan-Bissaka and Portugal international Dalot.

Wan-Bissaka, who arrived from Crystal Palace in June 2019, was a regular during his first two seasons at United - playing exactly 100 games. Yet former Porto ace Dalot snatched Wan-Bissaka's spot last season, starting nine of the final 10 Premier League fixtures.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Dalot is in Ten Hag's plans. An unnamed Spanish club are believed to have approached United for the 23-year-old, yet the new boss has no intention of selling him.

It's claimed United responded to the approach by offering Wan-Bissaka. Ten Hag reportedly informed the former England youth international, 24, he wasn't part of his plans last month when he left Dutch champions Ajax to start work at Old Trafford.

United are highly unlikely to recuperate the £50million they invested in Wan-Bissaka three years ago. It's unclear how much the Red Devils would demand for the defender, who has two years remaining on his existing contract. A loan deal could be the solution.

Although Ten Hag wants to keep Dalot, it's believed a bid of €25million (around £21.4m) could prize him away from Old Trafford. Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, Roma and AC Milan are all thought to be interested in signing the Portuguese youngster.

United are also thought to be willing to let Brandon Williams - who spent this season on loan at Norwich - leave the club. The 21-year-old failed to impress at Carrow Road, making 26 Premier League appearances as they were relegated to the Championship.

Rio Ferdinand believes Ten Hag should look to improve the team's defence this summer. Speaking on his Vibe with Fiv e podcast last month, the United legend urged his former employers to sign Norwich right-back Max Aarons - despite the Norfolk club's relegation.

"Someone like Max Aarons, you could put him like a Chris Smalling-type signing where they come in and they have an impact," said Ferdinand. "They may not be straight starters immediately but they go and they stay there for 10 years and have a really good career and they impact the club at different levels."

Wan-Bissaka has been criticised for his lack of quality in attacking positions, failing to produce a single assist from his 26 appearances this season. That will concern Ten Hag, who is expected to deploy an attacking style of play at Old Trafford.

Ferdinand added: "The way Ten Hag’s playing, looking at it, it’s like, 'We’re going to be the team that’s the aggressor, we’re going to be the team that dictates and dominates the games. So he’s looking to play on the half-way line. He isn't looking to play in a deep block."
