Man Utd have already negotiated a successful transfer with Erik ten Hag's agent

Manchester United have already negotiated a successful deal with Erik ten Hag's agent. Reports suggest the Ajax boss has been interviewed for the vacant managerial role at Old Trafford, with interim coach Ralf Rangnick set to move upstairs in the summer.

Ten Hag is represented by Kees Vos, an experienced intermediary with several Dutch clients - including Robin van Persie. Vos negotiated the ex-striker's move from Arsenal to United in the summer of 2012 and it proved to be an excellent piece of business.

The Red Devils went on to win the Premier League in 2012-13 - Sir Alex Ferguson's final season at the club - a feat they haven't achieved since. Van Persie scored 58 goals in 105 outings for United during a three-year spell, a good record by anyone's standards.

Vos also represents Daley Blind, who joined the agent's SEG Football company in April 2018 when he was a United player. Vos' team would've negotiated his return to Ajax in July 2018. Vos' most high-profile client is Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

Ten Hag worked under Guardiola for two years at Bayern Munich between 2013 and 2015, coaching the German side's second team. The Dutchman's style of play is similar to Guardiola's - adopting a 4-3-3 system - which could excite United fans.

Guardiola has achieved significant success at the Etihad during the last five-and-a-half years, winning three Premier League titles, four EFL Cups, two Community Shields and the FA Cup. The Spaniard is expected to add to his trophy collection this term.

Ten Hag is believed to be the "clear favourite" for the United job after months of searching. The Red Devils sacked manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last November and they haven't improved enough under Rangnick to compete for silverware.

United were dumped out of both the FA Cup and EFL Cup early on. They were also recently knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid and are sixth in the Premier League, 20 points behind leaders City and four behind Arsenal in fourth.

Since United last won a trophy in May 2017, Ten Hag has achieved significant success at Ajax. The Dutch giants have won two Eredivisie titles, two Dutch Cups and the Dutch Super Cup - earning Ten Hag two Coach of the Year awards in his homeland.

He's also endured two near misses. In 2019, Ajax conceded a last-minute Lucas Moura goal to Tottenham in the Champions League - denying them a place in the final. And the 2019-20 Eredivisie was cancelled due to Covid, with Ajax top of the table on goal difference.

United have struggled to replace Ferguson since his retirement in 2013. His successor David Moyes last just nine months, while Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer all failed to win either the Premier League or Champions League during their tenures.

The Manchester club have won only three major honours in the last nine seasons - the FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League - with their last trophy of any kind coming in May 2017. They've spent more than a £1billion in transfer fees since Ferguson's departure.
