Manchester United have decided not to appeal Casemiro's red card against Southampton - just a matter of months after they lodged a complaint at the same referee.
Back in November, the Red Devils were unhappy with Anthony Taylor after he moved the United wall further than the usual 10 yards, leading to Lucas Digne's strike in their 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa.
Digne put Unai Emery's side 2-0 ahead in the 11th minute of the game at Villa Park with a stunning free-kick. But the visitors' wall was deemed to be put back more than the supposed distance.
United were able to access the audio shared between Taylor and Christian Eriksen as the referee was miked up - and The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) accepted that Taylor made the incorrect call.
The Red Devils officials contacted PGMOL Select Group 1 Manager Jon Moss, who agreed Taylor had made a mistake and assured he would be told of his error. Taylor next took charge of a United game against Nottingham Forest back in December, before being the man in the middle for the Red Devils' trip to Arsenal.
Almost two months after last taking charge of a United game, Taylor was named as the referee for United's clash with Southampton as Erik ten Hag's side tried to return to winning ways in the Premier League.
However, United were held to a 0-0 draw in a game that saw Casemiro shown a straight red card for a high, late tackle on Carlos Alcaraz. Taylor had initially shown a yellow card to the Brazilian, before going over to the VAR screen and overruling his decision and sending him off.
Question marks were raised about whether United would appeal Casemiro's red card, however, the Red Devils confirmed in a statement on Monday evening that they weren't going to appeal. It means Casemiro will now miss the FA Cup quarter-final clash against Fulham - and three further Premier League matches against Newcastle, Brentford and Everton after the international break.
Speaking following his side's draw against Southampton, both Ten Hag and David de Gea hinted they were unhappy with the decision. The United boss said: "Casemiro has played over 500 games in Europe. He never had a red card. And now, what is it? In [the space of a few] games and 20 games [in total] in the Premier League, he has two red cards."
Meanwhile, De Gea told Sky Sports: "I think Casemiro was unlucky. He tried to touch the ball and his foot came up high. I think the referees need to show more consistency. Sometimes they show a red card and sometimes they don't. It's going to be tough, he's a big player. We will miss him for four games but we have a big squad."
