Man Utd fans plot new anti-Glazer protest in wake of dismal Everton defeat

A Manchester United supporters group has shared details of a fresh fan protest against the ownership of the Glazer family.

Details of the protest, organised by The 1958, were shared on social media on Sunday. It follows a dismal defeat for United away at Everton, which left Ralf Rangnick's side six points shy of Champions League qualification with seven matches remaining, as well as off-field distractions involving Cristiano Ronaldo.

The weekend also brought new fears about the managerial situation, with Mirror Football exclusively revealing United are set to face competition for managerial target Erik ten Hag. The opposition to the Glazers is not just related to recent events, though, as those planning the protest explain.

"Nothing will change until the head of the snake is removed," the message reads. "It's rotten and starts from the top down like any other business.

"The clubs [sic] a mess so we need to act and raise awareness again," it continues. The plan from fans is to begin their protest ahead of Saturday's upcoming meeting with Norwich City, marching through Manchester before boycotting the opening 17 minutes of the game in reference to the 17 years of the Glazers' ownership.

However, they have played down comparisons with the protest held before United's match against Liverpool late last season. That incident, which closely followed the announcement of European Super League talks, led to the game being postponed.

"This isn't another Liverpool; we believe this was a one-off unique event," the message continued. "This is the start of constant, relentless, legal and peaceful protests and actions against our owners.

"We know the challenges ahead of us and we will not waver or detract from these goals. Bring your colours, banners, flags and flares.

"We need you; we need each other, we need everyone to put aside their differences. Some things are worth fighting for..."

A second demonstration was planned six months after the incident before the Liverpool game, though this wasn't as well-attended. In the interim, owner Joel Glazer had appeared at a fans' forum, where he attempted to offer reassurances.

“Our goal is to win every competition we compete in, and we will continue to invest in our Academy and in the transfer market to support the manager in an effort to meet the club’s goals,” Glazer said in June.

“We want this club to always be successful and win trophies. To compete for trophies requires significant investment.”

The owners followed that announcement by investing heavily in the squad over the summer. Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo all arrived in a busy transfer window, but United are set to finish far adrift of last season's second-place finish.
