Manchester United owner Avram Glazer has enraged fans after posing for a picture outside the White House - alongside a man in a Liverpool shirt.
Already unpopular Manchester United owner Glazer, 62, was all smiles alongside the fan, who pointed toward Liverpool's badge on the Reds' home shirt. The picture has caused quite a stir on social media, with some fans becoming more hopeful of the Glazers' exit from Old Trafford with a potential takeover on the horizon.
"GET OUT OF OUR CLUB," a tweet reacting to the picture read. "Oh yeah, they have to go now surely," another fan fumed. "No way this is real," a third Manchester United fan added.
The Glazers are still in the process of selling Manchester united, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe - the British billionaire and Nice owner - believed to be the preferred bidder. Ratcliffe is in competition with Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani for ownership of his boyhood club.
Manchester United's owners have often been accused of a lack of investment, specifically in the club's infrastructure. Old Trafford is at an "all-time low" according to Red Devils legend Gary Neville, with the stadium no longer fit to meet Uefa standards to host the biggest matches. The ground was missing from Great Britain and Ireland’s 2028 European Championships bid.
"The Glazer family have, for years, been warned about a lack of investment in Old Trafford," Neville told the Daily Mail. "They have overseen a decline for 20 years in which it has gone from being one of the best stadiums in the world to one that can’t even get into the top 10 in the UK and Ireland. This is an all-time low. That it is not in the best 10 to host a tournament is a joke. There has been no investment. It is a rusty stadium. This is a dereliction of duty. It is shameful."
On the pitch, the Red Devils had a fairly successful season, securing Champions League football with a fourth-place finish, and they also secured victory in the Carabao Cup.
They have the opportunity to complete the domestic cup double this weekend when they face treble-chasing rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
Regardless of Saturday's result against their rivals, Manchester United are expected to have a busy summer transfer window, with Erik ten Hag set to be backed with cash.
A move for Mason Mount has been touted and personal terms have reportedly been agreed with the England international. England captain Harry Kane is another name who could end up at Old Trafford this summer, with the striker's future at Tottenham uncertain following an eighth-place finish.
Manchester United are also keeping tabs on West Ham star Declan Rice, but Arsenal are believed to be leading the race for the Hammers captain.
