Man Utd face nightmare 6-game run that will define their season

The fixtures have been released for the 2023/24 Premier League season and Manchester United have discovered their schedule for the campaign.

Kicking off the season at home to Wolves, it is not long before some of the most anticipated games of the season come along for Erik ten Hag's side. Their opening away matches of the campaign are trips to North London to face Tottenham and Arsenal.

United also face notably tricky runs in December – as Ten Hag’s side play host to Chelsea and Bournemouth while facing tough away games at Newcastle, Liverpool and West Ham – and the closing weeks of the campaign, rounding off the campaign by playing the Gunners and Brighton.

However, the decisive period of the season for the Red Devils is likely to come across March and early April. These are the weeks of the campaign when they also hope to be handling knockout stages of European competition alongside the latter stages of the FA Cup.

United begin the month of March with a Manchester derby away to Manchester City, whom they hope to replace at the top of English football as soon as possible. Always one of the toughest matches of the campaign, United will follow that trip with two successive home games against Everton and Sheffield United.

Then there is the March international break across the closing two weeks of the month before United resume with a treble of Premier League fixtures within the space of a week that are likely to go a long way to defining their final position in the table and hopes for the league run-in.

On the final weekend of March, United travel to Brentford – the scene of their haunting four-goal defeat at the start of last season. A trip to the Gtech Community Stadium is often an excellent barometer for any hopefuls near the top of the standings.

United will be in West London again just days later for a midweek trip to Chelsea – who are likely to return much stronger this season under new boss Mauricio Pochettino after a nightmare campaign in which Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard all occupied the Stamford Bridge dugout.

If those two games were not enough tough enough, United finish that mini-run of fixtures by playing host to Liverpool. Not much more needs to be said about that fixture, but it is likely to be two teams fighting for similar positions in the standings this term.
