Man Utd duo set for new contracts after finding form under Ralf Rangnick

Manchester United duo Fred and Diogo Dalot are both set to be rewarded for new contracts after finding their feet under Ralf Rangnick.

Both have had plenty of criticism during their times at Old Trafford but have found a new lease of life with the German at the helm.

Rangnick himself has received some flak during his time in charge with reports of an uneasy dressing room, with his training methods coming under fire.

There remains huge question marks over the futures of several players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek.

But two players that look set to hang around for a bit longer are Fred and Dalot, who have become key players with Rangnick in the dugout, report ESPN.

Fred has long been considered a first-team player from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's time in charge but the Brazilian has often been criticised from the stands and made something of a scapegoat when United have been found wanting.

However, those disconcerting voices have quietened in recent weeks after some fine displays from the midfielder, including his latest cameo when he came off the bench to score a crucial goal against Leeds United when the Red Devils needed a spark.

As for Dalot, the defender has taken over from Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the preferred right-back at Old Trafford in recent months.

Rangnick has been a big fan of the Portuguese star since his arrival in December while Wan-Bissaka has toiled at times this campaign.

It is a remarkable turnaround for Dalot, who was sent out on loan to AC Milan last season, with his United career looking close to being over.

But the 22-year-old now looks set to be handed a new contract that will underline his improved status in the squad.

The former Porto ace currently has a deal that expires in 2023, so there is also a need to renew to avoid seeing the player leave for nothing at the end of next season.

Fred will also see his contract come to an end at the same time and while United are looking for a new midfielder, losing the 28-year-old would be a blow.

As for Rangnick’s future, United are in the process of devising a shortlist of managers to take the helm at the end of the season.

The former RB Leipzig boss is in line to move upstairs and into a consultancy role while several coaches have been linked with a Red Devils switch.

Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to take the job while Erik ten Hag and Luis Enrique have also been sounded out.
