Man Utd draw up Antony debut plans as lucrative contract details emerge ahead of medical

Antony is expected to complete his £85m move to Manchester United in the next 48 hours to take Erik ten Hag's summer spending over the £225m mark.

United have agreed a fee with Ajax and the Brazilian international will travel to Manchester to undergo a medical. It is understood the striker has agreed a long-term deal worth around £200,000-a-week that will make him one of the highest paid stars at Old Trafford.

But United anticipate possible delays when it comes to getting him a work permit, meaning Antony is not expected to make his debut at Leicester on Thursday night and is more likely to face league leaders Arsenal this weekend instead.

Antony will become Ten Hag's fifth signing since he took charge in June and United's second most expensive of all time after Paul Pogba, who cost them £90m from Juventus in 2016.

Ten Hag, who has also been linked with a shock move for Barcelona's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, targeted Antony two months ago but the deal stalled because Ajax were determined to hold out for the maximum fee.

United bosses had been reluctant to meet the asking price, but caved in when Ten Hag made it clear how desperate he was to land someone he believes will have a huge impact in the Premier League.

Antony played under Ten Hag at the Dutch giants after joining them from Sao Paulo in 2020. He scored 25 goals and provided 22 assists in 82 appearances and has won nine Brazilian caps since making his international debut in 2021.

The 22-year-old will also become the fourth most expensive signing in Premier League history after Jack Grealish, Pogba and Romelu Lukaku.

His arrival is expected to make Cristiano Ronaldo even more determined than ever to find a new club before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
